Petco

Petco is normally a great place to shop and I truly enjoy coming here. However, I am leaving a 1 star review because I believe action needs to be taken regarding how employees are treated. I have been shopping at Petco for a long time, and John has checked me out many times at the register the past couple months. He is always incredibly kind and makes my day better. He politely asks if I’d like to add my phone number for rewards, and when I tell him I already receive plenty of emails and texts from other stores, he respectfully says “yes ma’am” and continues our conversation. He always asks about my day and even asks how my dog is doing. John has also shared a lot of helpful knowledge about pet care. For example, he taught me about healthy foods I can give my dog like cucumber, yogurt, carrots, honey, and other nutritious options. He clearly cares about animals and customers. The reason I am upset happened this past Saturday. I saw John in the store and he helped me find a product. Before leaving he kindly told me that if I needed anything else I could come find him in the break room in the back and he pointed to where it was. That actually made me happy because it showed he genuinely wanted to help even if he was on break. Later I did need help and went back there. When I arrived, I overheard a woman getting onto him about not meeting some type of phone-number average or metric. I heard John calmly and politely explain how he asks customers about their phone numbers at the register. Despite that, she told him to go home early. Shortly after, I saw John walk out of the break room with a sad look on his face, but he still politely told me to have a great day. That moment really stood out to me because it showed that even when he was clearly having a hard moment, he still chose to treat customers with kindness. As a customer, this really bothered me. John was respectful, hardworking, and clearly doing his best. Situations like that are exactly why people feel discouraged about working for companies. Employees like John are the reason customers enjoy coming to the store. Because of experiences like this, I’ve started going to Tractor Supply more often, since it seems like their employees are treated better. This is the main issue I have had with Petco, though I have also experienced long waits for help with crickets and when trying to get assistance with fish. I still believe Petco can be a great store, but employees like John deserve to be supported and appreciated. If you ever need a boost of happiness during your day, go talk to John. He’s amazing and treats everyone with kindness and positivity from what I’ve seen while waiting in line.

Petco has a really good sale on parakeets, BOGO 1/2 off sale. The birds are settling in nicely in their new environment, and pricing for accessories, food, etc. was very reasonable. I hope I'm remembering his name correctly, but Scott was super knowledgeable and helpful getting me taken care of!

I take my dog lucee to get her nails trimmed and buffed once a month and the groomers there are so nice. This is the only place I take my dog to get her nails or any grooming done at all. We are petco exclusive.
