🧾 Augusta Tax Digest Tops $10 Billion
The Gist: Augusta’s 2026 gross property tax digest reached $10,009,825,182. After $1.31 billion in exemptions, the net digest is $8.70 billion, up from $8.42 billion in 2025.
Why It Matters: The published figures put total maintenance-and-operations taxes at $53.85 million, up $1,002,353, or 1.90%, even with a lower net rate of 6.193 mills.
What's Next: Commissioners are scheduled to set the millage rate Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Lee N. Beard Commission Chamber, 535 Telfair St.

🏙️ Augusta Seeks Input on First Zoning Rewrite Since 1963
The Gist: Augusta Planning & Development opened an anonymous, 10-question survey as the city rewrites zoning regulations last overhauled in 1963. Planning Director Adleasia Cameron said responses from residents, property owners, businesses and community groups will inform the final ordinance.
Why It Matters: The ordinance sets allowed buildings and activities for each zone, so it can change where Augusta adds housing and businesses.

🥕 GAP Pantry Serves 200-Plus Households Weekly
The Gist: GAP Ministries Executive Director Nomi Stanton said the pantry now serves well over 200 households each Thursday as SNAP rule changes bring in new clients. Some work two jobs but earn a few dollars too much to qualify for benefits.
Why It Matters: The pantry is filling short food gaps for workers and SNAP recipients. Fresh produce goes first, and 75% of 2025 clients visited only one to five times.
